Where to Invest
Good investors don’t put all their eggs in one basket. They develop a diversified portfolio of investments. This means they have investments which are spread across what we call the four main asset types - short term deposits, bonds, properties, and shares, both in new Zealand and overseas.
Each of the asset classes have different levels of risk and returns. The chart (right) shows that short term deposits are the least risky, but give the lowest return over time. Whereas shares are the most risky, but in the long term should give you a higher return.
The right investment mix for you depends on your risk Investment profile. If you click here, you can use our Investment Risk Profiler to better determine your risk profile. Please note: If you are a couple make sure that you both use the profiler separately as we find that many of our couples have different investment risk profiles which need to be catered for.
Before making an investment decision we suggest that you consult your IFS adviser. If you would like to discuss your investment strategies with one of our Advice Financial experts, simply click here to e-mail us or call (0800) 10 22 64 and ask to be put in touch with an adviser in your area.
